لقد كان رئيس الوزراء العراقي العبادي بجولة في المنطقة هذا الاسبوع مع نظرائه في السعودية ومصر والاردن وتركيا وايران. وتعكس هذه الزيارات هدف العراق لتعزيز علاقاته الثنائية وتطوير سياسة خارجية أكثر نشاطا. هذه أخبار طيبة للعراق والشرق الأوسط بصورة اوسع. فمن ناحية، يتطلب نجاح العراق الأمني والاقتصادي التعاون الإقليمي، على سبيل المثال التصدي للتحديات عبر الحدود مثل الإرهاب أو لتسهيل التجارة والاستثمار. ومن ناحية أخرى، فإن وجود عراق مستقر وآمن ومزدهر في قلب الشرق الأوسط سيكون نعمة للأمن والاستقرار الإقليميين. ولهذه الأسباب أرحب بالجهود التي يبذلها رئيس الوزراء العبادي لتعميق علاقات العراق الدولية، وإنني أتطلع إلى قيام العراق بدور إيجابي أكثر نشاطا في المنطقة في الأشهر والسنوات المقبلة.
Iraqi Prime Minister Abadi has been on a whistle-stop tour of the region this week, meeting his counterparts in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey and Iran. The visits reflect Iraq’s goal to strengthen its bilateral relationships and develop a more active foreign policy. This is good news for Iraq and the wider Middle East. On one hand, Iraq’s security and economic success require regional cooperation, for example to tackle cross-border challenges like terrorism or to facilitate trade and investment. On the other hand, a stable, secure and thriving Iraq at heart the Middle East would be a boon for regional security and stability. For these reasons I welcome Prime Minister Abadi’s efforts to deepen Iraq’s international relationships, and I look forward to Iraq playing a more active, positive role in the neighbourhood in the months and years ahead.
